In this course, students will learn clinical procedure skills through a variety of means including lecture, observation, audio-visual aids, demonstration, simulations, and case studies.
- Problem-solving when carrying out caregiving procedures
- Hand and foot care
- Compression stockings
- Measuring vital signs
- Heat and cold applications
- Medications
- Assisting with oxygen needs
- Home management
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Perform personal care skills in an organized manner ensuring the comfort and appropriate independence of the client;
- Apply an informed problem-solving process to the provision of care and assistance;
- Provide personal care and assistance within the parameters of the HCA role;
- Provide care and assistance in ways that maintain safety for self and others in a variety of contexts.
Assessment will be based on course objectives and will be carried out in accordance with the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½Evaluation Policy. An evaluation schedule is presented at the beginning of the course.
This is a mastery course.
Textbooks and materials are to be purchased by students. A list of required textbooks and materials is provided for students at the beginning of the semester.
Students in the HCA program are required to maintain a passing grade of 65% (C+) in all courses in order to progress in the program.
